Matt Foy

The Townehouse’s longest going house musician.  Matt has been playing at the Townehouse since 1988, when he has 16 years old.  Currently, Matt plays two acoustic shows per month and usually at least once with a band.  He is a capable guitarist and totally Charlie Watts when he plays drums.  Brother Darren was also a fixture on drumstools in Sudbury for many years (Budget Motel, Fat Freddie’s Cat, Tom Fyfe). In November 2004, Matt recorded his long awaited solo record... and I mean solo... He played every track... drums, guitars, bass, vocals, banjo, mandolin, ukelele, keyboards, percussion... 21 songs!

Current bands: the Mondo Idols, Zabava (traveling Ukranian Polka band), Little Sir Echo

Former and occasional Bands:  Truth of Fiction, Animal Farm, The Smokers, Minimal Charm, Traveling Minstrels of Death, Coprock, the Cooperative, The Usuals, The Bender Brothers, Heaven and Elgin, The Tom Waits Birthday Party, Junkfood

Albums:  Animal Farm -s/t cassette 1995, The Smokers – Package Deal CD 1998, The Mondo Idols- s/t CD 2001, V/A - On The Nickel CD 2003. Matt Foy -s/t CD 2004.

Repertoire – Matt plays lots of stuff.  Lately, two out of three sets are mostly Matt’s songs.  He has also lately been playing his readings of songs from Chris Murray, Alun Piggins, the Silverhearts, R.E.M., radiohead, old country, old ska tunes and more.  Although he has an arsenal of old rock songs from his old bands, Matt has generally moved away from the repertoire of Animal Farm (except for a larf once in a while)  With the Mondo Idols, Matt sings most of his own songs plus there are a few covers from Bob Marley, Toots, Desmond Dekker, and The Specials.
